Title: Three-dimensional culture of endometrial cells

Speaker: Associate Professor Nobuhiko Yamauchi (Kyushu University, Japan)

Time: 9:30-11:30 am, March 14th, 2018

Venue: Room No. 4129, Lecture Hall, Building 4, North Campus, College of Veterinary Medicine

Abstract:

Importance of the in vitro model of tissues or organs is now evident in tissue engineering and cell biology research. Till now, two-dimensional culture systems have been using for in vitro cell culture, and have contributed to cell function studies despite their limitations. Three-dimensional (3-D) culture has been utilized in cell biology research because it appears to mimic morphology and physiology of cells in living tissues and organs, unlike conventional monolayer cell culture. The cells cultured in a 3-D environment are in close contact with each other and have considered useful in the investigation of intercellular interactions.

In the presentation, in-gel culture, spheroids and tissue explant culture as three-dimensional culture using endometrial cells are explained. In addition, I introduce analysis of uterine function, such as tissue remodeling, interaction with embryos and glandular secretion using each 3-D culture methods.

A Brief Introduction to the Speaker:

Dr. Nobuhiko Yamauchi graduated and acquired his Ph.D degree from Tohoku University, Japan in 1995. From 2003 to the present, He was an associate professor of Graduate School of Agriculture, Kyushu University. Dr. Yamauchi is a famous reproductive physiologist in Japan, whose research interest focusing on embryo implantation. Dr. Yamauchi published more than 80 papers in international academic journals, such as Biology of Reproduction, Journal of Reproduction and Development, American Journal of Physiology-Cell Physiology, and American Journal of Physiology-Endocrinology and Metabolism.
