Title: Advances in geotechnical engineering: underground sensing for infrastructure and environment

Location: Room 208, College of Water Resources and Architectural Engineering, Northwest A&F University

Time: 9:30 a.m. on October 15, 2018

Speaker:Sibel Pamukcu, PhD, Professor

Inviter:Tianshun Hou, PhD, Associate Professor

Brief introduction to the speaker:

A recognized expert in the field of electroremediation of soils and groundwater, Sibel Pamukcu's pioneering work spans more than a decade of research. Her efforts focus on soil and groundwater decontamination using electrochemical technologies and the application of sensor systems for distributed measurements in geo-media and civil infrastructure in subsurface.
Pamukcu is co-holder of several U.S. and Turkish patents granted for the development of a testing procedure used in soil electromediation. She has served as the principal or co-principal investigator for more than 60 grants and contracts from national and state agencies, including the National Science Foundation, the Department of Energy, the Electric Power Research Institute, and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. In addition, Dr. Pamukcu is co-author of more than 50 peer–reviewed articles and 100 technical contributions in the form of conference proceedings, research reports and book chapters. She teaches undergraduate courses in soil mechanics, foundation engineering and geo-environmental engineering, and graduate courses in advanced foundation engineering and soil dynamics.

Dr. Pamukcu is recipient of the ASCE's Civil Engineering Foundation Grant Award and Lehigh's Alfred Noble Robinson Award. She has served as Lehigh chapter president of Sigma Xi, and is currently on the faculty of Lehigh's Martindale Center for the Study of Private Enterprise. She also serves as co-principal investigator and co-director of Lehigh ADVANCE.
