On March 11, FAO-China South-South Cooperation Programme Supports Cabo Verde jointly applied by NWAFU and Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of Shaanxi Province, was approved by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. It is the first time that NWAFU has undertaken the FAO-China South-South Cooperation Programme. The successful application of the project has ushered in a new chapter for NWAFU to participate in South-South cooperation.
Organized by SRIA Secretariat, the project is carefully planned by the South-South Agricultural Cooperation College and the African Research Center. To promote in-depth participationin South-South agricultural cooperation, NWAFU, as the leading unit of the project, united Chinese Academy of Fisheries Sciences and cooperated with Department of Forestry and Animal Husbandry of Cape Verde, Institute of Agricultural Research and Development, Animal Husbandry Service Bureau and the Institute of Fisheries Research. The project has been implemented in Santiago Island and Santo Antao of Cape Verde. At present, the selection of experts and the refinement of project implementation is in progress.
According to the Tripartite Agreement on FAO-China South-South Cooperation Programme Supports Cabo Verdejointly signed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China, FAO and the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment of Cape Verde, China will send two long-term experts and five short-term experts to Cape Verde to provide three years of technical assistance to Cape Verde in the fields of animal production and epidemics prevention, horticultural soil moisture and fertilizer management,integrated control of plant diseases and insect pests of maize, seaweed farming and value chain development.
