报告题目:Sustaining Agriculture in the Central High Plains Region of the United States with Limited Irrigation Water

  报 告 人: Neil C. Hansen博士

  报告时间:2012年2月28日下午4:30-5:30

  报告地点:国际交流中心208会议室

  报告人简介:
Dr. Neil Hansen is an Associate Professor of Soil Science at Colorado State University with specialization in soil and water conservation in both dryland and irrigated crop production systems. Dr. Hansen earned his B.S. and M.S. degrees from Brigham Young University and his Ph.D. degree from the University of Minnesota. His research addresses water conservation in dryland and limited irrigation cropping systems by means of crop selection, cultural practices, pest management, and irrigation management. His work includes quantification of evapotranspiration, crop productivity, and soil resource conservation. He teaches the senior capstone course in soil and crop management at CSU, advises graduate students, and has achieved success in both research and outreach programs. He serves as an Associate Editor for Soil Science Society of America journal. He has published his work in peer reviewed journals including Journal of Environmental Quality, Soil Science Society of America Journal, Journal of Soil and Water Conservation, and Soil and Tillage Research.

  报告摘要:
The Central High Plains Region of the United States is a semi-arid agricultural region with a mix of rangeland and dryland and irrigated crop production.  Winter wheat is the major dryland crop in the region.  Irrigated crops include maize, alfalfa, sugarbeet, and vegetables.  Irrigated crop production in the region is threatened by water shortages due to population growth, declining groundwater supplies, and drought.  An applied research and education program seeks to sustain irrigated crop production in the region through water conserving practices such as controlled deficit irrigation.  Dr. Hansen will present an overview of agriculture in the Central High Plains region and will discuss on-going research efforts to understand how to best manage deficit irrigated field crops.
