On the first anniversary of the adoption of Measures for Administration of Invasive Alien Species, the first high-end forum on the prevention and control of invasive alien species was held in Yangling Demonstration Zone, Shaanxi Province on April 22-24, 2023.

With the theme “Future-oriented prevention and control of invasive alien species in China,” the Forum aims to summarize the outstanding achievements of recent research on invasive alien species prevention and control in China, as well as to improve the original innovation capability and application of related researches in this field, so as to strengthen academic exchange between institutions, and between different sectors for prevention and control of invasive alien species in the national industrial system, exploring the strategies and measures on this issue.

The forum was hosted by the Northwest Agriculture and Forestry University of Science and Technology, organized by College of Plant Protection of NWAFU, National Invasive Alien Species Prevention and Control Team for Wheat Industry System, Key Laboratory for Integrated Management of Crop Pests on the Northwest Loess Plateau of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and co-organized by Alien Species and Quarantine Committee of the Entomological Society of China. More than 100 leaders, experts and professors and students from 15 research institutes and administrative bodies across China attended the forum, including Chinese General Administration of Customs, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of Shaanxi Province, as well as China Agricultural University, Chinese Academy of Inspection and Quarantine, Xi'an Customs District P.R.China, and Urumqi Customs District P.R.China.

On April 22, the forum held an opening ceremony and conference. After the opening ceremony, 15 experts including Huang Yajun, Zhang Yongjiang, researcher from the China Academy of Inspection and Quarantine, Sun Wenxian, dean of College of Plant Protection of China Agricultural University, and Hu Xiaoping, dean of College of Plant Protection of NWAFU, made presentations on national barrier system of invasive alien species, plant quarantine technology, risk assessment of invasive species, disaster mechanism and prevention and control technology. Students and professors responded enthusiastically to experts’ presentations and exchanged views. The forum achieved the expected goal of “Deepening cooperation by extensive communication and mutual learning, and jointly promoting theoretical and technological research on the prevention and control of invasive alien species, and making greater contribution to national biosecurity, food security and ecological security”.
